Tips for Using EnviroCollar & Truly Sensible Flea & Tick Products

April 09, 2020

Congratulations! As a concerned pet owner, you’ve chosen to use avoid using synthetic pesticides, and selected EnviroCollar which provides a solution with all- natural active ingredients to help control fleas and ticks.

Here are a few tips to help you get the most out of EnviroCollar and TrulySensible products.

1. How Does EnviroCollar Work?

One of the mechanisms that fleas and ticks use to detect a potential host is by recognizing the carbon dioxide that they release.  This alerts them to jump or latch onto the animal. EnviroCollar uses the scents of specific essential oils that are slowly diffused to mask the smell of your dog, so that fleas and ticks do not react when they walk past them through tall grasses and other locations that these parasites dwell.

2. Does EnviroCollar Kill Fleas & Ticks?

Although our collars are effective at helping to control fleas and ticks, it does not kill them.  Therefore, it’s important to make sure your pets are parasite free before using the collar. You can use a product like TrulySensible EnviroPowder to safely rid your pet of a flea infestation before using EnviroCollar.

If your pet has an active flea problem, you can use Enviropowder around your house and pet’s bedding to help eliminate fleas and kill them during their various stages of development.  To fully combat the entire life cycle of fleas, we suggest using the powder and collar combination for at least two months.

3. How do I Fit the Collar Onto my Dog?

EnviroCollar is 24” in length and fits most dogs.  However, if you have a very large dog you can use two collars together to create one large collar. Any excess collar length greater than 2 inches should be cut off and disposed of appropriately.

4. What is That Thin Plastic “tube” Attached to the Collar?

Due to the way they are manufactured, EnviroCollar has a thin plastic tube attached to the main collar that needs to be removed before the collar can be properly fit onto your pet.

5. How Long Does it Last?

We recommend that the collar be changed every 30 days for optimum effectiveness. The essential oils are embedded into the nylon collar and do not wash off, so there is no need to remove them when your dog goes swimming.  We do, however, recommend removing the collar during grooming or bathing.

6. Are EnviroCollar Ingredients Safe?

There’s a lot of information out there about pets and essential oils, and we take safety very seriously.  Our products are 100% compliant with EPA regulations and are classified as “minimum risk pesticides”. EnviroCollar is made using only natural and pure essential oils, and have been toxicology tested.

In their undiluted form essential oils can be a concern for pets. Dogs and cats who have exposure to concentrated essential oils can develop adverse reactions.

Our collar contains 4.3% Virginia cedarwood oil and 4.3% peppermint oil. These essential oils are embedded in a molded nylon collar that also contains a small amount of zinc stearate and almond oil.  As the essential oils are embedded in the collar and designed for a slow release of smell, and therefore exposure is kept at a safe level.

7. Is EnviroCollar Safe for Cats?

Cats can be more sensitive than dogs as they lack a specific enzyme in their liver that metabolizes phenols that are found in many substances, including certain plants and their extracts. This also makes them more susceptible to all kinds of toxins, pesticides and medications.  However, the greatest risk with cats and essential oils comes from having ingested undiluted oils or being in an air-tight room with a powerful diffuser.

EnviroCollar is designed for dogs, but we do have a number of customers that use the collars on their cats. We have had no safety issues with customers that use the collars for cats, but, if you decide to use EnviroCollar on your cat please be sure to observe them closely to ensure they do not have an adverse reaction.

For the first few days, the collar does has a stronger scent which reduces to a more gentle level over time.  For cats (and sensitive dogs) we recommend leaving the collar out of the package and outside for 2-3 days before use, to reduce the possibility of a sensitivity.

8. How Do I Get More Protection?

If you’re in an area with a high prevalence of ticks and / or fleas, we recommend applying EnviroPowder or EnviroCide regularly which will substantially increase effectiveness vs the collars alone.

EnviroPowder is our synthetic pesticide free powder product that has been proven to kill fleas and unattached ticks within 48 hrs of application!  The ingredients are safe, all natural and contain 1.1% Geraniol Oil and 0.9% Peppermint Oil, in a calcium carbonate base.

EnviroCide is our synthetic pesticide free spray product with Cedarwood, Lemongrass and Geranium essential oils that provides a repellent effect that lasts for hours.

When used as directed, the combination of TrulySensible flea and tick products provides a powerful and natural solution to both control and kill fleas and ticks.
